Former governors Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), along with Senator Shehu Sani and former presidential aide Reno Omokri, are among individuals reportedly nominated for ambassadorial appointments by the Federal Government.
According to Vanguard, the nominees are currently undergoing security screening by relevant agencies, ahead of the official release of the list. It’s been nearly a year since Nigeria recalled its ambassadors from various international postings, a move that raised concerns about the nation’s diplomatic representation. While one nominee confirmed the appointment anonymously, attempts to reach others for confirmation were unsuccessful.
A Presidency source explained the delay in releasing the list: “The nominees are undergoing security vetting by the Department of State Services (DSS). Once the process is complete and they’re cleared, the names will be made public. The list should be out before the end of the month.”
