The Federal Government has announced plans to offer for sale 753 housing units confiscated from former Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development disclosed this following a joint site inspection of the estate by Minister Ahmed Dangiwa and EFCC Chairman Olanipekun Olukoyede.

The estate, linked to Emefiele, was recovered by the EFCC in December 2024 and handed over to the Ministry on the orders of President Bola Tinubu. During the visit, the Minister said technical evaluations, including structural integrity tests, would begin immediately. Once assessed, the estate will be completed and listed for public purchase via the Renewed Hope Portal.

Dangiwa stressed the importance of transparency in the housing programme and warned public officials against engaging in corruption. He praised the EFCC for what he called a historic recovery and encouraged Nigerians to continue supporting the agency’s anti-corruption efforts. Olukoyede emphasized the need to demonstrate the reality of the estate, noting that previous images shown to the public were only aerial views. He reaffirmed the EFCC’s commitment to accountability and stated that this marks the largest single asset recovery since the agency was established in 2003.

Spanning over 150,000 square metres, the estate includes various residential units. It was seized following a final forfeiture order granted on December 2, 2024, by Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the FCT High Court. In April 2025, Emefiele attempted to challenge the forfeiture, claiming the EFCC concealed the proceedings. However, the court dismissed his application.
