Iyabo Ojo Raises Alarm Over Threat to Her Life

Iyabo Ojo, a Nollywood actress and activist, has raised alarm over threats to her life and that of her family, which she says stem from her efforts to demand justice in the case of late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

In a statement shared on her verified Instagram page, Ojo revealed that she has been subjected to intimidation, cyberbullying, and direct threats since speaking out about Mohbad’s death. “It’s not surprising to now see coffins bearing my name, videos openly threatening my life and property, and signs that my family and business are at risk,” she wrote.

Her statement follows an invitation from the Nigeria Police Force’s National Cybercrime Centre, in connection with a past live video in which she urged certain individuals to come forward regarding Mohbad’s death. Ojo clarified that she never accused anyone directly but was only calling for an impartial investigation. “I never stated that any particular person was responsible for Mohbad’s death. If I had, I wouldn’t have taken the legal and investigative steps that I did,” she said.

Through her NGO, Pinkies Foundation, she had written to various government officials—including the Governor, the Attorney General, and the Inspector General of Police—requesting a transparent investigation and a coroner’s inquest. She also held meetings with law enforcement officials, including the late Deputy Commissioner Mr. Ayilara and members of the Lagos State House of Assembly, to stress the need for justice.

Despite her efforts, Ojo said the backlash has been intense. She and her children have been targeted with relentless online attacks and threats. “Certain individuals have continually called for my downfall, urged the destruction of my livelihood, and encouraged public hostility toward me and my children, all without any response from the authorities,” she said.

One of the more disturbing incidents she mentioned was receiving a threatening letter shortly before her daughter’s wedding in Tanzania. “The letter warned that I would go through hell in the next three months,” she said, describing the experience as deeply unsettling. She also revealed that her office was recently damaged in a fire, adding to the emotional toll she’s faced. While she didn’t directly attribute the fire to the threats, she said the entire ordeal has been mentally and emotionally exhausting, and she now needs time to recover.

Defending her advocacy, Ojo maintained that her only motive was to demand justice. “I never accused anyone. I was responding emotionally to disturbing videos and using my platform to seek justice,” she reiterated. She added that she remains willing to honour further police invitations and face legal scrutiny if necessary.

Ojo concluded by thanking her supporters—friends, fans, and family—who have stood by her. Mohbad’s death in September 2023 sparked widespread calls for accountability, as questions remain over the circumstances of his passing.
