Nigerian singer Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has formally ended his association with YBNL Nation, the record label founded by renowned rapper and music executive Olamide. Asake confirmed his departure by launching his own independent record label, Giran Republic, under which he recently released his latest single, “Why Love”. This move follows months of speculation surrounding his alleged quiet exit from YBNL Nation amid controversy.
Although Asake had subtly addressed the rumors earlier in the year by paying tribute to Olamide in his song “Military”, his latest move has put the speculations to rest. Asake initially joined YBNL Nation in February 2022 and quickly rose to become one of Nigeria’s most prominent music artists.
Within months of joining YBNL, Asake secured a major distribution deal with Empire, a partnership that remains intact despite his departure from the label. With his new label, Giran Republic, Asake is now fully in control of his music career. Asake’s respectful gesture towards Olamide, despite his exit from YBNL Nation, indicates that not all departures are acrimonious. Fans are eagerly anticipating Asake’s future projects under his new label, Giran Republic.
