The Lagos State government has partnered with the federal government to launch a 68km Green Line rail project, connecting key areas such as Marina, Victoria Island, Lekki Free Trade Zone, and Ajah. This project is a crucial part of the Lagos Strategic Transport Master Plan, aiming to establish a metro rail system with six Light Rail Transit (LRT) lines.

According to Gbenga Omotosho, the commissioner for information and strategy, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with the Federal Government’s Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI) to kickstart the project. The Green Line will play a vital role in enhancing connectivity and easing traffic congestion across Lagos.

Notably, significant progress has been made on two of the proposed LRT lines, with the Blue Line and Red Line already operational in their first phases. The Blue Line, spanning 13 kilometers from Marina to Mile 2, began operations in September 2023. This comprehensive initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to transforming Lagos’ transportation infrastructure and boosting economic growth.
