Heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has paid a lasting tribute to his late friends, Sina Ghami and Kevin “Latif” Ayodele, by getting their names tattooed on his arm. The tattoos were done a few weeks ago, roughly two months after the December car crash that claimed the lives of Joshua’s friends and trainers while they were visiting Nigeria. Joshua, who was a passenger in the vehicle, sustained injuries in the accident.
Fullham Tattoo in London revealed on Instagram that Joshua’s visit was both a surprise and his first time at the studio. The deaths of Ghami and Ayodele deeply affected the 29-4 boxer, who said in an emotional video, “I’m gonna do what’s right by them. I’m gonna do what’s right by their family.”
The fatal crash occurred on December 29 along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State, southwest Nigeria. The Lexus SUV carrying Joshua and his friends collided with a stationary truck on the roadside. The Federal Road Safety Corps reported that the vehicle was suspected of exceeding the legally prescribed speed limit on the corridor. The driver, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, was charged in January with dangerous driving, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care, and operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s license.
