A 35-year-old woman has been taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder after gunfire struck the Beverly Hills mansion of pop star Rihanna, Los Angeles police reported. The suspect, identified as Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, is being held with bail set at $10.2 million (£7.6 million). Police responded to reports of gunfire at the property at 13:15 local time (21:15 GMT) on Sunday.
Authorities said the alleged attacker fired from a vehicle towards Rihanna’s home using an AR-15-style rifle. A law enforcement source told the Los Angeles Times that the singer was inside the mansion at the time, but no one was injured. The motive for the attack remains unclear. A police official told CBS that assault rifle casings were recovered at the scene. Ortiz’s white Tesla was later found approximately eight miles (12 km) from the mansion at the Sherman Oaks Galleria shopping centre, where she was arrested. She is reported to be from Orlando, Florida.
Rihanna, whose full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, gave birth to her third child, a daughter named Rocki, last September with her partner A$AP Rocky. The couple also share two sons, Riot and RZA. Their pregnancy announcement was made at last year’s Met Gala. This incident is not the first high-profile event involving the couple in 2025. In February, A$AP Rocky was found not guilty of firing a gun at a former friend, a trial during which Rihanna brought her two sons to court.
Rihanna rose to fame in the early 2000s with hits such as “Pon de Replay” and “Umbrella.” Over her 20-year career, she has launched successful businesses including Fenty Beauty and a lingerie line, and her net worth is estimated by Forbes at over $1 billion. The BBC has reached out to Rihanna’s representatives for comment.
